Question 15How many Light Houses are there in Taiwan?

A:There are 31 lighthouses in Taiwan

During the Japanese Colonial Period, the Japanese government set up lighthouses to grab as much as natural resources as possible. To facilitate marine transport of Taiwan resources to Japan, the Japanese government set up a total of 18 lighthouses including Fuguei Cape Lighthouse, Bitou Cape Lighthouse, Baishajia Lighthouse, Mudou Lighthouse, Keelung Lighthouse, Pengjia Isle Lighthouse, Dongjiyu Lighthouse, Chamuyu Lighthouse, Hualien Port Lighthouse, Siandong Lighthouse, Waisanding Islet Lighthouse, Su-ao Lighthouse, Liouciou Isle Lighthouse, Cilabi Lighthouse, San Diego Lighthouse, Huayu Lighthouse, Green Island Lighthouse and Cimei Lighthouse from 1896 to 1939. The number of lighthouses in Taiwan has totaled up to 23 before the Recovery of Taiwan. However, those 23 lighthouses built during the Ching Dynasty and Japanese Colonial Period were almost ruined by bombs during the World War II. Few lighthouses could escape from the disasters and keep illuminating at that time. After the Recovery of Taiwan, the Department of Marine Affairs in the Directorate General of Customs renovated and rebuilt those ruined lighthouses. After 1958, the export business boomed and the economical development was active. To cope with the surging number of transport vessels passing by Taiwan, the Taiwan Customs set up eight lighthouses such as Ciouzihshan Lighthouse, Guosheng Port Lighthouse, Gaomei Lighthouse, Yeliu Lighthouse, Keelung Lighthouse (Cihou Lighthouse), Taichung Port Lighthouse, Orchid Island Lighthouse and Fangyuan Lighthouse in Keelung, Tainan, Taichung Port, Taitung and Changhua. To sum up, there are a total of 31 lighthouses in Taiwan so far.
