A:Liouciou Isle Lighthouse
Liouciou Isle Lighthouse is situated on the hilltop at the southeast coast of Liouciou Isle (Siaoliouciou), which is an offshore isle to Pingtung County. The lighthouse was funded and built by Kaohsiung Fishermen’s Association in 1929. The lighthouse was equipped with the fourth-class acetylene flashing light powered by 1,000 candlepower. The lighthouse stopped service soon after its damage during the World War II. |
In 1952, the Fishermen’s Association asked the Taiwan Customs to renovate and manage the lighthouse. Then the Customs equipped the lighthouse with the fifth-class acetylene flashing light, which flashed once every two seconds. In 1955, the lighthouse flashed in white once every eight seconds with 860 candlepower instead. In 1980, the lighthouse was re-equipped with the alternating current (AC) electric lamp with 10,000 candlepower light. |
