The
Department of Transportation in Taipei City Government has
mapped out the Martyrs' Shrine as an important tourist spot
in Taipei. However, during our nine-month long investigation,
we found that many sightseeing buses owned by travel agencies
parked in the square in front of the Martyrs' Shrine during
their visits. The head of Jiantan borough, Mr. Bi Wu-Liang,
told us that these vehicles in front of the Martyrs' Shrine
have big influences on the traffic flow there.

Lack
of a Large-scale Parking Lot
Mr. Bi's mentioned that there's an army camp of the Ministry
of National Defense west to the Martyrs' Shrine. He suggest
that since the camp is just beside the side entrance of the
Martyrs' Shrine, if the Ministry of National Defense can open
the camp to public access, it would be convenient for visitors
to park their cars there. Or otherwise, the city government
can rent a parking lot nearby to solve the problem. We believe
either of the suggestions would ease the traffic congestion
in the area, which would encourage more tourists to visit.
Many of the Tourists don't Bring
Substantial Benefits to the Economy of Dazhi
After visiting the Martyr's Shrine, most of the tourists are
taken to the National Palace Museum directly by tour buses passing
through Bei-an Road. Only few visitors who drive themselves
will go shopping in the Miramar Entertainment Park, the biggest
entertainment complex recently opened in Dazhi area. This means
that tourists bring air pollution, heavy traffic to Dazhi and
also increase the amount of garbage there without benefiting
its economy. How to design a sightseeing route profitable to
Dazhi is a question that requires careful consideration.
