tell from our questionnaires that most visitors at the Martyrs'
Shrine are there to see the changing of the tri-force honor

attraction for tourists whether they are from Middle and Southern

Insignia
on helmet
1. Army:The blue sky with white sun insignia on army's helmets
represents the nation; it symbolizes soldier's responsibilities
of protecting the nation and its people. The commander's sword
and rifle represent guardians of the nation, with the use of
both weapons. The fine standing grain symbolizes Army's victorious
effort during the Northern expedition, war of resistance against
Japan and rebellion suppression, as well as reflecting the farmer
and soldier in-one policy. There are seven ears in each of the
two grains, which serves as a remembrance of the spirit of the
seven years war of resistance against Japan.
2. Navy: The Wuchang uprising happened in 1911, a year before
the founding of the Republic of China. During that year, the
Chinese Navy first presented the ¡§Blue sky, White Sun and a
Wholly Red Earth¡¨ flag at Jiujiang, which gave rise to the
later R.O.C. flag. In 1929, or 17 years after the establishment
of the R.O.C., the R.O.C. government set the National Emblem
and National Flag of the Republic of China Act, with the blue
sky and white sun as the national emblem and the addition of
a wholly red earth as the entirety of the national flag. In
1930, the government set the national flag as the Navy flag
as well with the blue sky and white sun as the leading Navy
flag.
3. Air Force: The insignia of the Air Force is a set of wings
of a flying eagle, with the national emblem of blue sky and
white sun in between. Representations of eagles are often used
as an emblem or insignia in many countries because eagles are
known for their strong soaring flight with the fastest speed
among flying birds. The Air Force eagle symbolizes the spirit
of invincibility and boldness.
