The roofs of Buddhist temples are topped with sculptures depicting two dragons defending either a pearl or a pagoda, while the roof of a Daoist temple has two dragons defending the gods of good fortune, prosperity, and longevity.

Because Lungshan Temple is dedicated to the boddhisatva Guanyin, the roofs of the main and front pavilions have two dragons protecting a pagoda and a pearl, respectively, while on the roof of the rear pavilion they are protecting the gods of good fortune, prosperity, and longevity.
