The¡§water crossings¡¨

The so-called ¡§water crossings¡¨ are covered corridors that link the main hall to the buildings on the eastern and western perimeters of the temple precinct. Because the ¡§water crossings¡¨ are not as exalted as the main hall, their roofs do not reach as high as the eaves of the latter.

For the Chinese people, even and odd numbers and associated with the yin and yang principles, respectively. The main hall has an odd number of beams, while the two ¡§water crossings¡¨ have an even number, an expression of harmony between the yin and yang.
