When you're looking around for beauty at Lungshan Temple, don't just look up! You also need to look down at your feet. An interesting element of the steps leadi likng in and out of the temple is the way the base posts have been designed to look from abovee scrolls. (Note to those with a sweet tooth: Please don't associate them with Swiss rolls. Theyˇ¦re called scroll posts!) You'll find the steps with these scroll posts just outside the dragon and tiger doors, which we describe elsewhere.

Before you jounce up the steps, stop to notice the scroll posts. They seem to be hinting that entering the temple is like perusing an ancient scroll or painting, and the things youˇ¦ll be seeing offer much beauty and knowledge, just as a valuable scroll does.
